The 15-year-old threw down a lifetime best time of 23.17 in the 50 fly, winning the event nearly a second and marking the fastest time in the country this season in the girls’ 15-16 age group.
Brito knocked .69 off of her previous personal best (23.86) over the course of the day, posting a time of 23.57 during prelims before lowering it even further during finals.
The chart-topping performance came shortly after Brito snagged another event victory in the 100 free, prevailing in 48.47. She beat out Stanford alum Lillie Nordmann by almost a full second for the championship title, with Nordmann, who now swims for Alto Swim Club, touching 2nd in 49.31.
Earlier in the meet, Brito won the 100 fly in 51.20, which knocked .35 off of her lifetime best and made her the 9th-fastest 15-16 100 butterflier in history.
Brito’s winning performances on Sunday night marked her third and fourth victories of the meet, as in addition to winning the 100 fly, she also prevailed in the 100 back (51.46). Brito also placed 2nd in the 100 breast (1:01.60) and 3rd in the 200 breast (3:21.01).
Brito went on to close out the meet with a final victory in the 400 free relay, joining Beach Cities Alpha teammates Eryn Arnold, Andi Taylor and Sora Koike to secure the win with a time of 3:21.01.
Other Day 4 Winners and Highlights
Orange County Gold’s Lucy Flynn won the 1650 free in 16:46.21, adding an extra gold to her collection after winning the 1000 free (9:58.50) and taking 2nd in the 500 free (4:50.49). Meanwhile, Eveline Grannis of Fullerton Aquatic Sports Team finished 3rd in the event in 16:48.54, delivering a massive time drop of over 23 seconds to go under 17 minutes for the first time. The men’s 1000 free went to Pacific Swim’s Julien Rousseau, who stopped the clock in 8:57.12 to shave .12 off of his lifetime best and mark the only sub-9:00 performance of the day. Irvine Novaquatics’ Andrew Maksymowski claimed the title in the 100 free with a time of 44.09, narrowly outtouching runner-up Alex Pletcher (44.18) of Sea to Desert Swim Association. Maksymowski had already placed 5th in the 1000 free (9:15.05) on Sunday after finishing 2nd in the 200 free (1:35.42) and 3rd in the 500 free (4:25.46). The women’s 200 back saw Rowyn Wilber from Clovis Swim Club touch 1st in 1:55.51, just .3 off of her lifetime best. Taking home the victory in the men’s 200 back was Rancho San Dieguito’s Darmen Yessengeldy, who logged a personal best time of 1:46.09. He was the only competitor in the field to go under 1:47, with Irvine Novaquatics’ Kyle Tsuei taking 2nd in 1:47.33. Aaron Sequeira, another Stanford alum who now trains with Alto Swim Club, won the 50 fly in 21.29. Finishing in 3rd behind him was 29-year-old Joao Mescolote, whose time of 21.71 marked a lifetime best by over half a second. Nordmann prevailed in the women’s 200 IM, turning in a time of 1:59.85 to claim the title by just .06. Racing in behind her was Wilber, who posted a best time of 1:59.91; the pair delivered the only sub-2:00 performances in the field. Pletcher earned his fourth victory of the meet in the men’s 200 IM, stopping the clock in 1:47.37 to crack the 1:48 barrier for the first time. Irvine Novaquatics won the men’s 400 free relay, with the team of Michael Wang, Maksymowski, Inyoung Kim and Peter Vu posting a time of 3:00.72. Maksymowski notably clocked the fastest split of anyone in the field, throwing down a time of 43.91 on the second leg of the race.Top 5 Girls’ Team Scores
