Miami (OH) AD torches Bruce Pearl for saying RedHawks might finish last in the Big East ...Middle East

Just one undefeated team remains in college basketball: The Miami (OH) RedHawks out of the MAC.

The RedHawks have had some close calls, but remain 29-0 on the year with just two regular season matchups remaining. However, the RedHawks caught the attention of former Auburn basketball head coach Bruce Pearl this weekend, too.

Pearl joined Wake Up Barstool on Monday when the RedHawks came up in conversation. When asked how he believes Miami would fare in a “big-boy conference,” Pearl had this to say: “No way… They’re not built for the grind. In the Big East conference this year, they would finish in the lower half. They may not finish last, but I tell you what, I’m not so sure.”

Miami (OH) AD David Sayler saw Pearl’s comments and took exception. He tagged Pearl on X, saying the disrespect for the RedHawks is awful, and that he should be nowhere near a TV studio. For context, Pearl also works for TNT Sports.

Sayler also pointed out Pearl’s usage of “we” when talking about Auburn:

@coachbrucepearl u are flat out wrong about @MiamiOH_BBall when u say we would finish last in the Big East. The disrespect is awful and u should not be near a TV studio covering this sport when u show your true colors! Even slipped in a "we" when talking about Auburn, nice work!

The RedHawks are looking to reach the NCAA Tournament undefeated and become the first team to do so since Gonzaga in 2020-21. To do so, they’ll have to beat Toledo and Ohio this week. From there, the RedHawks will compete in the MAC Tournament from March 12-14 in Cleveland, Ohio.
