2026 Indiana High School Athletic Association Boys State Swimming and Diving Championships
Feb. 28, 2026 Indianapolis, IN SCY (25 yards) ResultsTrent Allen did something that no swimmer had done in six years as Carmel continued its dynasty at the Indiana High School Athletic Association Boys State Swimming and Diving Championships.
Committed to Florida, Allen repeated as champion in the distance freestyle events, becoming the first to do the distance double in back-to-back seasons since Jake Mitchell in 2019 and 2020.
“It’s the best feeling there is,” Allen said to the IHSAA website. “I think it went great. I was stoked with the way it went.”
Allen started his day in the 200 free, clocking a personal best time of 1:35.08, topping his old best of 1:35.92. He touched the wall 24 one-hundredths ahead of Carmel teammate Lewis Zhang, a Penn commit.
Allen then captured the 500 free in 4:20.02, more than six seconds ahead of Zhang.
Allen also had a leadoff split of 44.92 to help Carmel’s 400 free relay team win that event in 2:57.63. The other team members were Carter Hadley (44.14), Lewis Zhang (44.98) and Yi Zheng (43.59).
It was another banner day for Carmel, which scored 408 points to easily prevail over runner-up Penn (247). It was the fourth-most points in state history and the third straight year Carmel scored more than 400 points at the state meet.
“They are willing to do whatever it takes,” Carmel coach Chris Plumb said of his team, according to the IHSAA. “They speak their mind, but they are willing to do whatever the team needs. That speaks to the brotherhood they’ve created and the culture. These guys love each other, they go to work every day and battle each other in practice.”
In addition to Allen, Carmel also got wins from Zheng, Hadley and its 200 medley relay team.
A junior who has committed to Stanford, Zheng won the 200 IM in a time of 1:43.92, improving on a 2nd-place finish last year.
Hadley, a senior who has committed to SMU, won the 100 back in a personal best of 48.41. He was 4th in the event last year.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Hadley (22.72), Zheng (24.15), Jack Street (21.52) and Donald Zhao (20.85) topped the field in a time of 1:29.24.
Besides Allen, the other multi-event winner individually was Bloomington South sophomore Peter Kovacs, who won both sprint freestyle events.
Kovacs first won the 50 free in a personal best time of 20.12, finishing nine one-hundredths ahead of Fishers junior Alex Koo.
After finishing 2nd in the 100 free last year, Kovacs won that event this year in a personal best time of 43.79.
Despite falling short in the 50 free, Koo did claim a title, winning the 100 fly in a personal best time of 48.15.
Other event winners were:
Warsaw community senior Ian Parrott won the 1-meter diving event with 556.30 points. He was 3rd last year.
