You mentioned you were slightly hesitant to step back into the character because of how Yellowstone ended. But what made you excited to go back into this world and the role of Kayce Dutton?Once I heard the pitch for what Marshals was going to be, when I first heard the idea, it was just, "How about a Kayce Dutton procedural?" That sounded really terrible, to be honest. I thought that was a crazy idea. And then when I actually met Spencer (Hudnut, the series showrunner) and he pitched the idea, and not only the idea, but he was like, "We want this to have a procedural element, but it's sort of going to be this hybrid and kind of like no procedural you've seen before."

Where's your character emotionally when we first meet him in this new chapter?He's not doing too well. And I know how that sounds, no one's shocked to hear that about Kayce because he's had a rough go pretty much the whole original series. But kind of the worst thing that could possibly happen to him has happened to him, and that's where we meet him. And so the whole driving force of this show is, what does somebody do when they're faced with the hardest thing possible? And he decides to fight for his happiness and for change in his life.
Why do you think audiences still connect so deeply with stories set in this world and your character in particular?I think part of it, like I was saying, is that scenery of the West, the mountains, it's some of the most photographable, most beautiful places on earth. And I think people definitely have, there's a romanticism about living in a place like that and being outside all day, especially the more and more we're all getting sucked into our computers and our phones and our cubicles. So I think there's that. And I think with this show, there's something so great about the idea that you can be the good guy and go defeat the bad guy. That's just a classic trope that I think we all like.
