Marine Corps F-35C stealth jets from Miramar were among the aircraft that struck Iran early Saturday morning during attacks by the United States and Israel.
A photo released by Central Command showed a jet launching from the San Diego-based aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which is reportedly operating off Oman in the North Arabian Sea.
“The President ordered bold action, and our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, guardians and coast guardsmen are answering the call,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.
The attacks began at 10:15 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday night. Central Command said targets included Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command and control facilities, Iranian air defense capabilities, missile and drone launch sites and military airfields.
Iran responded with hundreds of missiles and drones, but there have been no reports of U.S. casualties or combat-related injuries.
Israel said it believes Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the attacks, but there has not been official confirmation.
President Trump said the strikes were aimed at ensuring Iran could not develop a nuclear weapon. He called on Iranians to topple their government once the attacks ended.
