March 1 — Riverside: Family Fun Day at UCR Arts runs from 12:30 to 4 p.m. in downtown Riverside. This event celebrates 30 years of Gluck Fellows program for the arts at UC Riverside. March 5 — Riverside: Enjoy strolling the streets of downtown Riverside and visiting 20 different artsy locations for free, including museums, art galleries, studios and the library on the first Thursday of the month from 6 to 9 p.m. Celebrate the arts and culture of the Inland Empire. March 6 and 24 — Costa Mesa: Bring the kids or just your own curiosity to the Centennial Farm Discovery Days at the Orange County Fairgrounds. The tour and parking are free on Discovery Days, when “farmers” are stationed around the working demonstration farm available to answer questions and provide information. Upon check-in, you will receive a map to aid you in seeing all Centennial Farm has to offer. Children can pet a chick and plant a radish seed. This is for all ages. March 17-28 — Various locations in L.A. County parks: Spring Jubilee events sponsored by L.A. County Parks & Recreation will include live performances, fun workshops, egg hunts, edible crafts, food tastings and more. No registration, just show up. March 21 — Westwood: Get outdoors at the monthly 10 a.m. Drop-In Botanical Garden Tour at the UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden. Join an expert for a free one-hour guided tour. Hear stories of plants in the garden. Meet at the La Kretz Garden Pavilion at the northern end of the garden. Arrive a few minutes early as the tour leaves at 10 a.m. sharp. Park in UCLA Parking Structure 2 (payment required) near the Westholme Avenue entrance to campus, or at metered parking spots in Westwood. Metered street parking can also be found on Manning Ave, which can be accessed from Charles E. Young Drive or Hilgard Avenue. March 21 — San Juan Capistrano: It’s time for the town’s 66th annual Swallows Day Parade and historic district party, which starts at the Mercado Street Faire at 9 a.m. The parade starts at 11 a.m. but get there early, because the streets are closed off by 10 a.m. The Mercado Street Faire offers family-oriented fun from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s theme is “Trails, Tails & Traditions — 25 years.” It celebrates the tradition of cliff swallows returning to the mission from their winter home in Argentina, although many of them have moved on elsewhere. March 22 — Los Angeles: Check out the Sunday Studio at the MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) in downtown Los Angeles from noon to 3 p.m. This time, the free workshop is “All Things Paper,” an exploration of paper arts that takes inspiration from the current exhibition “Good on Paper: Works from the Gene J. and Betye M. Burton Acquisitions Endowment.” You can learn how to make your own paper out of recycled materials and build things. Work and dance to music spun by DJ Ashley Younnia. March 22 — Los Angeles: The Ebell + LA Festival will feature live speakers, an art show, crafts and LA Voices. The fest runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. At 11:30 a.m. see a free performance of “We Can Do It!” — a play about World War II icon Rosie the Riveter — at The Wilshire Ebell Theatre, celebrating the power of women.
