Chicago couple pulls off wedding – with plenty of help – after Mexico violence derails plans ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Chicagoans stepped up to help a couple pull off their dream wedding after it was cancelled amid violence in Mexico following the killing of a drug kingpin.

More than 70 people died in the attempt to capture Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes and the aftermath, authorities previously said. Residents’ livelihoods were disrupted in the violence that followed as vehicles were burned, gunshots erupted and vandalism occurred.

Guadalajara, one of two major cities where violence flared, was where Kaity Bucaro, and her fiancé, Robbie Morris, planned to get married.

In wake of the violence, the duo changed their plans and opted for a local celebration.

“I could have never imagined being here today, especially as of four days ago,” Bucaro said.

The couple first shared their situation on social media, explaining how they had to cancel their dream wedding – and plan a wedding from scratch in Chicago.

“The outpouring of support after we kinda put our story out there on Monday,” said Robbie Morris, the groom. “We had so many people reach out, different venues and vendors saying like we will help you make it happen.”

The couple’s story gained more than 1.5 million views on social media.

“I feel like social media can be a bit desolate at times, but it’s like we have found ourselves in this cozy pocket of the internet of kindness, of support and people just feel that it’s a real love story,” Morris said.

The Alston gave them a deep discount on the venue for their ceremony and reception. Other vendors donated services to pull off a magical night for the bride and groom and 150 of their guests.

“Our owners saw them on the news and it really pulled at their heart strings, and they gave the couple a call,” explained Savannah Jimenez, The Alston private events and membership manager.

Bucaro and Morris said they will never forget how their city came through for them on their special day.

“I love Chicago so much it’s where I grew up, it’s where Robbie and I plan to raise a family and it’s such a good feeling to know that a community that we love so much loves us back,” said Bucaro. “Chicago turned this wedding around for me and I could not be more grateful for that.”
