Epstein victims call for police to ‘fully investigate’ trafficking links to UK airports ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

Victims of Jeffrey Epstein have called on British police to ensure allegations the paedophile trafficked women into the UK are “fully investigated”.

At least six police forces are understood to be investigating whether victims were trafficked into UK airports on Epstein’s private jet between the early 1990s and 2019.

It is believed around 90 flights linked to Epstein arrived and departed from UK airports, including 15 after his conviction for child sex offences in 2008.

A number of unidentified “females” were listed among passengers travelling in and out of the UK, leading to fears that a number of potential victims have not been traced by authorities.

The release of millions of court documents in the US relating to Epstein has led to growing scrutiny of the paedophile financier’s activities in the UK before his death in a New York prison cell in August 2019.

Sigrid McCawley, a managing partner at Boies Schiller law firm who represents a number of Epstein’s victims, said he ran a “vast global sex trafficking enterprise” that spanned decades and “damaged the lives of girls and young women around the world”.

She told The i Paper: “The public is only now learning about the immense scope and scale of that enterprise, which included trafficking that occured in the UK.

“Law enforcement must follow the facts without hesitation and do its job to investigate anyone connected to Epstein’s criminal enterprise.”

Dr Charlotte Proudman, a leading barrister and campaigner specialising in violence against women, said the recent arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of misconduct in public office risked sending the message that allegations of sexual offences linked to Epstein are not being taken as seriously.

Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested after emails emerged suggesting he may have passed sensitive documents to Epstein while working as the UK’s trade envoy.

Thames Valley Police is also investigating allegations a woman was trafficked to the UK by Epstein for a sexual encounter with the former duke. The force said it is assessing the information separately from its misconduct investigation.

Misconduct in public office investigations can also look into whether the offence was carried out for a sexual purpose.

She said: “If the focus remains on alleged misconduct in public office while sidelining allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking of women and girls, it sends a devastating message that state documents matter more than women’s bodies and lives.”

Meanwhile, daily logs filed by police protection officers during their duties guarding senior royals and VIPs will be scrutinised as part of a Met police investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, it is understood.

Members of Scotland Yard’s elite Royalty and Specialist Protection (RaSP) unit are required to record their activities during each shift or tour of duty. It is understood by The i Paper that these records are then submitted and kept as a log of what the armed officer’s did and saw in relation to their protection role.

A source said: “The logs are filed routinely whether at home or abroad. What is in them is at the discretion of each officer but the expectation is that they will explain what happened on any particular shift, including anything notable for whatever reason.”

Under national police evidence retention rules, documents such as pocket notebooks used by officers must be retained for a minimum of six years. However, other information, including routine or intelligence reports, can be kept indefinitely.

Last week, the Metropolitan Police said it was contacting Andrew’s protection officers to ask them to consider whether “anything they saw or heard” while working for the former duke “may be relevant” to ongoing enquiries.
