ALBANY, N.Y. — A hotline to help new Americans across New York State with immigration-related services is expanding its hours.

The New Americans Hotline, managed by Catholic Charities Community Services and the Archdiocese of New York, will now operate on weekends. People can call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The hotline’s number is 1-800-566-7636. It aims to connect callers with free resources and information in over 200 languages. The staff includes multilingual call operators and a full-time immigration attorney. All calls are confidential.

Hotline leaders say their staff can help to connect people in immigration detention with free legal services. Callers can also get information on upcoming Know Your Rights workshops, report immigration fraud, and more.

Since January 2025, the hotline has answered 21,159 calls and made 42,207 referrals. It’s funded through a grant from the New York State Office for New Americans.

The hotline expansion comes after Monroe County resumed naturalization ceremonies. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had demanded that Monroe and other upstate New York counties halt naturalization ceremonies in November.
