The West Indies, who had smashed 254 against Zimbabwe in Mumbai, crumbled to 63/5 and then 83/7 before an 89-run stand between Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd lifted them to 176/8.
Thankfully for SA and India, it wasn’t enough. Markram’s 82 off 46 balls, Quinton de Kock’s 47 off 24 and Ryan Rickelton’s 45 ensured South Africa chased the target down in 16.1 overs to seal their semi-final berth. Arshdeep acknowledged the favour with a grin and thanked the Proteas for the favour. “South Africa played brilliantly. We’re grateful; they’ve given us the opportunity to keep our fate in our own hands. It was great fun to watch—proper cricket. Though, we will certainly try to beat them if we meet in the final!”
