VICTOR, N.Y. — The town of Victor has been adjusting since the Fishers Fire District closed on Oct. 1, 2025, with the Fire Board of Commissioners saying it’s due to rising costs. News10NBC spoke with town leaders and residents to understand the impact on fire and EMS services.
Victor Town Supervisor Jack Marren said the Victor Fire Department has taken over fire response duties, while the Victor Farmington Volunteer Ambulance Corporation handles EMS calls.
Additionally, the Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department has taken over coverage of the Eastview Mall, which Fishers FD formerly covered.
“People were concerned, concerned about their own safety and I think we’ve been able to resolve that issue,” said Marren.
Marren noted that while the transition has been positive, there is a difference between career firefighters and volunteers. “The career [firefighters are] going to be the first responders be the first on the scene,” he said.
Regarding EMS, Marren said, “The ambulance, now their call volume actually continues to grow, just because the population here in the community is [growing] as well…but their response times have been very, very good.”
“I think one of the biggest positives was the placement of a ambulance at [Fishers] Station 2, which is on High Street,” he added.
Some residents have mixed feelings about the changes. One unnamed resident expressed disappointment in fire response but appreciated the nearby ambulance crews.
Eric Siegfried Linke, another resident, said, “They have been bringing more and more people into my town. I see the traffic. I see more chaos. I see more building. And we need [Fishers Fire District] back.”
Most former Fishers Fire District firefighters have found new jobs, although some are still seeking employment. Additionally, Marren mentioned that fire service taxes have decreased by about 26% going into 2026.
