A Chicago man was arrested this week after he allegedly shot a 14-year-old passenger of a vehicle on I-90 during a fit of road rage, authorities said.

Around 3:13 p.m. on February 18, Illinois State Police Troopers responded to a report of an expressway shooting on I-90 near Ogden Avenue in Chicago.

State police said 52-year-old Rene Garcia fired a weapon at another vehicle on the expressway during a “road rage incident,” striking a 14-year-old who was a passenger in the car.

The driver of the vehicle took the 14-year-old to a local hospital, authorities said, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Garcia pulled over after the incident and was arrested, ISP said. The shooting prompted a closure of all southbound lanes on I-90 as police investigated.

He was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on Friday.

“ISP reminds the public that when it comes to aggressive driving, don’t lose your temper or your life.,” state police said in a release.
