ROCHESTER, N.Y. — More than 100 people gathered at the First Universalist Church on South Clinton Avenue in Rochester on Tuesday night for a community discussion on recent federal immigration crackdowns.
Organizers spoke about the ICE and Border Patrol crackdown in Minneapolis earlier this year, which has scaled back recently following protests and the shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Organizers say the community should be prepared in case Border Patrol launches a widespread immigration crackdown in Rochester similar to Minneapolis.
“We expect something like that will happen here in more than the ways that it’s already happening. And we want our community to be ready to respond. We want our community to be ready to take care of one another,” said Eileen Casey-Campbell, minister of the First Universalist Church of Rochester.
The First Universalist Church plans to hold other events in the future.
