WATERLOO, N.Y. — Waterloo Middle and High School went into lockout Tuesday following a threat to the district.
Deputies arrested a 15-year-old girl for posting the threat on social media. Investigators determined there was no active threat to students or faculty.
The teenager has been charged with making a threat of mass harm. Her name is not being released due to her age.
The district said every threat is taken seriously, issuing the following statement:
“On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the Waterloo Central School District was made aware of a potential threat to the district.
“The district immediately implemented its emergency plans, including putting the Waterloo Middle School and Waterloo High School in a secure lockout and notifying local law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter.
“After a thorough investigation, law enforcement officers determined that there was no threat to the safety of our students or staff, and the secure lockout was lifted.
“The Waterloo Central School District is committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment. Every threat is taken seriously by the district and law enforcement. Students and others who make threats will be treated accordingly by the district and law enforcement.”
