Alabama and former NBA G League center Charles Bediako filed an appeal to the Alabama Supreme Court on Monday, in a bid to reverse Tuscaloosa Circuit Court judge Daniel Pruet’s decision to deny him a preliminary injunction.
Bediako’s lawyers also filed a motion in Tuscaloosa Circuit Court seeking an injunction from Pruet, pending the appeal, according to a report from Bama247. Pruet on Tuesday denied Bediako’s motion for interim relief, which would have allowed him to return to action for Alabama while the appeal is pending.
His request for an injunction was denied on Feb. 9, after he previously filed a lawsuit against the NCAA and gained temporary eligibility through a restraining order. Bediako has remained with the team as he pursues his degree, despite the denial.
“We understand that Charles is pursuing an appeal in his case against the NCAA, and ultimately, he must do what he considers to be in his best interest,” Alabama Athletics said in a statement Monday. “The University continues to support Charles as he works toward completing his degree.”
Bediako appeared in five games for the Crimson Tide under the restraining order and averaged 10 points per game on 77.3% shooting. The team went 3-2 in games he played, including a 100-97 thriller over Texas A&M and a 96-92 rivalry win over Auburn on the Plains.
The Crimson Tide will host Mississippi State on Wednesday, then travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, for a Top 25 showdown with the No. 22 Tennessee Volunteers.
