ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County is highlighting local high school students who are warning the community of the dangers of driving while drunk or under the influence of drugs.
County leaders celebrated the winners of Monroe County’s ‘Stop DWI’ design contest on Monday night at the Watts Conference Center on South Fitzhugh Street. Three students got certificates and a cash prize. The students’ videos, which aired on local TV in December, aimed to spread the message far and wide.
“Your campaign ideas weren’t just well designed, but they were incredibly impactful,” County Executive Adam Bello said. “They challenge people to think differently, to pause before making a choice, and to understand that impaired driving is never just about one person.”
Data from 2024 shows that alcohol was a factor in more than 61% of crashes involving young people in Monroe County.
