The photos that show how Epstein used Britain to hide in plain sight ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

Nine police forces are currently investigating Jeffrey Epstein’s links to the UK, including allegations he used British airports to traffic women for sexual encounters.

Former prime minister Gordon Brown has claimed files show that Epstein’s private jet made 90 flights to or from UK airports and has called for an investigation into whether Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor used RAF bases to organise meetings with the paedophile financier.

Brown claims that documents about Epstein released in the US reveal in “graphic detail” how Epstein was able to use Stansted Airport in Essex to “fly in girls from Latvia, Lithuania and Russia”.

He has also asked police to investigate whether Epstein was given access to RAF bases after his conviction for soliciting child prostitution in Florida in 2008.

The claims raise questions about how the New York financier was able to inveigle his way into British high society and continue to exploit his connections even after his conviction.

A trove of photos released by the US Justice Department has offered fresh insight into how Epstein used Britain as his playground for years.

Epstein and Maxwell target UK social scene

Little-known to the wider world, the financial troubleshooter who made millions after setting up a trust in the US Virgin Islands began to make a splash on the UK party circuit in the late 1990s.

Epstein first met Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of newspaper tycoon Robert Maxwell, in the early 90s when she moved to New York.

The well-connected Ghislaine introduced Epstein to the London party scene, a useful hunting ground for the paedophile to connect with showbusiness figures, the wealthy and those who aspired to his riches.

They are pictured at a 1997 bash to honour Hong-Kong born entrepreneur David Tang, the “king of the London party scene” who was known for throwing lavish events attended by the likes of Sir Michael Caine, the Duchess of York, Prince Michael of Kent and Kate Moss.

A Royal embrace at Balmoral

This picture of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell relaxing at what appears to be the Queen’s Balmoral residence was shown to a US court in 2021 during Maxwell’s trial on charges of grooming teenage girls for Epstein between 1994 and 2004.

The image was undated but is thought to have been taken in 1999, when Prince Andrew reportedly invited the couple to stay at the Scottish estate.

Maxwell has claimed that Andrew and Epstein were first introduced to each other by wealthy investor Lynn Forester de Rothschild.

Evidence from the Epstein files suggests Andrew invited Epstein to a number of Royal residences including Sandringham and Buckingham Palace, bringing the sex trafficker into the heart of the British establishment.

Epstein’s access to the innermost circles of the Royal family was illustrated by his presence at Ladies Day at Ascot on 22 June 2000, where he and Ghislaine joined the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother in the Royal enclosure.

Mounbatten-Windsor has said that Epstein and Maxwell were his personal guests.

The welcome granted to Epstein to the event that launches the start of the British Summer social season would have confirmed his elevation into the UK’s highest echelons.

Posing at the seat of power

The Epstein files included this photo of Ghislaine Maxwell standing outside the door of 10 Downing Street.

No context was provided with the photo about why she was there or when the image was taken. But Epstein’s influence with senior UK government figures has since become clear.

Lord Mandelson appears to have tried to organise a tour of Downing Street for a Russian model linked to Epstein while he was Business Secretary.

Mandelson tried to make the arrangements for the model, who was described by Epstein as “beautiful”, at the height of the 2010 election campaign, according to unearthed documents.

Partying inside Royal residences

Another image from the Epstein files shows Andrew lying across the legs of five women, whose faces have been redacted. Maxwell appears to look down, smiling at him.

Image-matching software suggests the photo was taken in the saloon room at Sandringham, the royal estate in Norfolk.

Epstein’s friendship with Andrew allowed him frequent access to Royal residences. In June 2000, Epstein attended a “Dance of the Decades” party at Windsor Castle hosted by the Queen to celebrate Prince Andrew’s 40th birthday.

In July 2006, shortly before being charged with solicitation of prostitution, Epstein was invited to a masked ball at Windsor Castle for Princess Beatrice’s 18th birthday. In 2010, Andrew invited Epstein, already then a convicted sex offender, to a dinner at Buckingham Palace, assuring him of “lots of privacy,” according to released documents.Andrew has consistently denied any claims of wrongdoing.

Epstein died by suicide in a federal jail in Manhattan, New York, as he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges. He had previously pleaded guilty to child sex offences in 2008.

Maxwell was convicted of child sex trafficking and sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2021.
