CUBS LINEUP — The Chicago Cubs have still not won a game in 2026. Maybe today’s the day. Note: I just realized today’s game is MLB.TV’s Free Game of the Day, so we WILL be able to watch this one, after all. Nice.
Colin Rea is taking the mound for Chicago, and he’ll be facing a lineup full of SF regulars, including their new second baseman, Luis Arraez. On the flip side, Robbie Ray is starting for San Francisco, and here’s a look at the Cubs lineup he’ll get in his spring debut.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
Matt Shaw, 2B Alex Bregman, 3B Seiya Suzuki, CF Miguel Amaya, C Chas McCormick, RF Dylan Carlson, LF Justin Dean, DH Scott Kingery, SS Owen Miller, 1BAlex Bregman and Seiya Suzuki are back in the Cubs lineup Sunday afternoon, with Suzuki still playing center field as he prepares for the WBC. They’re both preceded, however, by Matt Shaw, who is sliding back to the infield after playing right on Saturday. Between his age, requisite work on offense, needed experience in the outfield, and potentially limited starting opportunities early on, I suspect we’ll see a LOT of Matt Shaw this spring.
Beyond them, it’s a big camp invite sort of day, with bench battlers like Chas McCormick, Dylan Carlson, Owen Miller, and to a lesser extent, Scott Kingery and Justin Deal grabbing a start. I linked everyone’s name in the Cubs lineup above if you’re looking for more on each guy.
Personally, I think McCormick has the best shot to make the team, given his prior success and experience, but I also think the Cubs (and all of us) would be happier with a Dylan Carlson breakout. The former top prospect is still pretty young, and you just never know when things click with guys like him. It’s a long shot, but that’s my rooting interest.
