Jimmy Buffett was inspired to write "Margaritaville" in the latter part of the 1970s. He told Ellen DeGeneres in 2005 that the song's creation was just "one of those six-minute wonders that you hear about, but it actually happened to me."

"I can't even remember the name of the bar," Buffett continued. He said he had a margarita and it tasted good, before he got on a plane to return to his home in Key West, Florida.

"I continued the research [at the bar]," he added. "And I went home and wrote it."

The tune was released in 1977 on Buffett’s seventh album, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes. "Margaritaville" would reach No. 8 on Billboard and remain on the charts for 23 weeks.

The fun anthem would go on to define Buffett's professional career. The entertainer capitalized on the song's popularity in many successful ways.

The brand's official website further shared details of Buffett's empire built on a song about a delicious alcoholic beverage. It wrote that Buffett's "original idea for Margaritaville was to expand the opportunity for as many people to experience the lifestyle immortalized in his iconic song as possible."

After a career that spanned five-decades, Jimmy Buffett died on September 6, 2023. He was 76.
