Following the 3rd day of the 2026 Big East Championships, Georgetown and Villanova continue to lead the men’s and women’s standings respectively.

Georgetown sophomore Owen Watkins capitalized on his huge day 2, winning the men’s 100 fly in 46.44. He was locked in a tight race with Seton Hall senior Michael Klimaszewski, who came in 2nd with a 46.52. The swim was a huge one for Watkins, blowing away his previous career best of 47.22. Klimaszewski holds a [personal best of 46.15, which he set at last year’s Big East Championships.

Georgetown senior Nick Pezzella had a huge swim in the men’s 100 breast, clocking a 53.95. His swim came in just off his career best of 53.91, which he swam at last year’s Big East Champs. He led a trio of Georgetown swimmers, including Bailey De Luise, who came in 2nd with a 54.19, and Michael Mostofi, who took 3rd in 54.68.

Villanova freshman Anna Kilponen took the women’s 100 fly in 53.45. It was an awesome performance for the first-year swimmer, marking a career best by half a second. Her previous best was 53.92, which she swam just a few weeks ago in a dual meet against Pitt.

Villanova’s Peri Gaguzis, a junior, won the women’s 400 IM in 4:15.51. She won in a close race with fellow Nova junior Meghan Tierney, who touched 2nd in 4:16.01. The duo traded blow-for-blow, with Tiernan leading after fly, Gaguzis taking the lead on back, Tiernan retaking the lead on breast, and Gaguzis taking the lead back for the final time on freestyle.

Villanova made it a sweep of the 400 IMs, as Justin Nowicki, another junior, took the men’s 400 IM in 3:47.65. It was a great swim out of Nowicki, marking a new career best by 2 seconds. He was just off the NCAA qualifying time of 3:46.19, which would have automatically qualified him for next month’s NCAA Championships. His time did, however, mark a new Villanova program record.

Villanova kept their momentum rolling with another 1-2 finish, this time in the women’s 200 free. Carlota Colomer Guasch won the race in 1:48.89, while freshman Kayla Bolster took 2nd in 1:49.31. Bolster was out faster, splitting 52.30 on the opening 100, while Colomer was 52.97.

Seton Hall then got in on the action, seeing senior Kevin Cary take the men’s 200 free in 1:36.23. Cary was just off his career best of 1:36.04, which he swam at last year’s Big East Champs.

Villanova made it right back to the top of the podium, as senior Winnie Jalet won the women’s 100 breast in 1:01.47. That swim marks a career best for Jalet, clipping her previous best of 1:01.58, which she swam back in November.

UConn earned a win in the women’s 100 back, where Rhian Russell posted a 54.16. UConn made it a 1-2 finish, as sophomore Jessica Sheng finished 2nd in 54.85.

Seton Hall sophomore Balint Marosi won the men’s 100 back in 48.45. Marosi was just off his personal best of 48.26.

Though Villanova was the big winner of the day in the women’s events, Xavier earned the win in the women’s 400 medley relay, clocking a 3:39.09. Maggie O’Toole (55.22), Jordyn Libler (1:01.47), Norah Simich (53.46), and Olivia Oyster (48.94) combined to earn the win.

In the men’s 400 medley relay, Marosi (48.78), Evan Wilson (54.65), Klimaszewski (45.82), and Cary (43.54) teamed up for a 3:12.79.

The diving event of the day was women’s 1-meter, where UConn’s Olivia Denery won with a score of 268.25. It was a great event for UConn, as Kate Cooper came in 2nd with a 263.60.
