ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Does watching the Milan and Cortina Winter Olympics make you want to learn a new winter sport? Skiers at Bristol Mountain have told News10NBC that they’re inspired by the Olympic success of local skiers Chris Lillis and Dylan Walczyk.
If you’re planning to hit the slopes, a local physician has some advice. Dr. Stephen Rosenbloom, an attending emergency physician at Rochester General Hospital and a volunteer physician with the Bristol Mountain Ski Patrol, emphasizes the importance of fitness for skiing enthusiasts.
“Skiing isn’t going to help your body stay in shape, per se,” Dr. Rosenbloom said. “You really have to prepare to ski. You have to stay limber, you have to stay strong, and then you can enjoy the skiing. All you do is come out and ski, you’re going to lose ground, little by little, over the years.”
Dr. Rosenbloom also advises skiers to be mindful of the wear and tear skiing can cause to knees, hips, and back over time. He suggests discussing these concerns with a primary care doctor.
