L.A. Chinatown Firecracker: Register for the 48th event, Feb. 28-March 1. The “Year of the Fire Horse” includes a number of types and lengths of events (bike riding; timed run/walk; Kiddie Run). Opening ceremony on Feb. 28 includes lion dancers, a color guard and the National Anthem, guest speakers and lighting firecrackers, 7:15 a.m. The start line is at 943 N. Broadway, Los Angeles. The ceremony is followed by: a 50-mile bike ride (8 a.m.); a 20-mile fun bike ride (8:30 a.m.). On Sunday, March 1, the ceremony held at 7:30 a.m., also includes lions dancers and lighting firecrackers: 5K run/walk (8 a.m.; timed event); a 10K run/walk (8:40 a.m.; timed event); two Kiddie Runs (9:45 a.m. for ages 8-12; and 9:55 a.m. for ages 7 and younger). New Congregational Missionary Baptist Church – 58th Anniversary and Black History Event: The Rev. Williams after becoming the first Black American admitted, in 1923, to the American Institute of Architects.
