ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’re back to Green on the Threat Tracker as the wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is behind us. Do keep in mind though that untreated roads, sidewalks, driveways and parking lots will have a layer of ice on them this morning. You may also need to take some time scraping the ice off your car. Temperatures rise well above freezing today however, so the ice won’t last. Down near the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier it could even reach 50 degrees later! Gray skies throughout, though.
Tomorrow a low pressure system will bring us some unsettled weather at times mainly in the form of rain. There may be some colder spots east of Rochester where precipitation falls as snow. Most of the rain will be in the morning before transitioning to showers for the afternoon and evening, with colder air wrapping around and changing rain showers to snow showers afterwards.
Cold northwest flow and synoptic moisture will help spark up some snow showers Saturday with highs in the mid 30s. On Sunday, mid 30s again, with the remaining area of low pressure over the Great Lakes interacting with a storm off the Mid Atlantic coast. This will help produce more snow showers in the afternoon and evening. But overall the weekend snow should not amount to more than 3 inches of snow by Monday morning.
Temperatures will be below average to start next workweek, but climb back to a more mild status for the second half.
