For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Leah Chaffin, a Nevada high school state championship qualifier, has announced her commitment to swim for Wesleyan University in Connecticut beginning in the fall of 2026.
“I’m so excited to announce my commitment to Wesleyan University where I will further my academic and athletic career!! I want to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have my heart for always encouraging and supporting me along this journey. I am especially grateful to Coach Vanessa who gave me such an amazing opportunity to swim for this team. I can’t wait for this new chapter of my life. #GoCardinals”
A senior at Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas, Chaffin has competed for her school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her sophomore year. In addition to swimming for Palo Verde, she currently trains year-round with Las Vegas Swim Club, where she primarily specializes in free, back and IM.
At the 2025 NIAA (Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association) Class 5A Southern Region Championship in May, Chaffin earned a second swim in both of her individual events and logged two new personal best times. She placed 6th in the 100 free (56.10 – PB) and 8th in the 100 back (1:03.98). She also logged a lifetime best in the 50 back (30.43) as the leadoff on her team’s 200 medley relay.
Chaffin represented Palo Verde at the NIAA 3A State Championships a week later, racing on two relays. She helped her team to a runner-up finish in the 400 free relay, splitting 55.97 on the second leg, and a 6th-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
At the 2025 Nevada State Championship in November, Chaffin posted a series of strong performances. She placed 10th in the 400 IM (5:00.08 – PB), 14th in both the 100 back (1:03.60 – PB) and 200 back (2:18.59), 19th in the 200 free (2:03.22 – PB), 20th in the 100 free (57.50) and 23rd in the 50 free (26.41 – PB). She also finished 20th in the 200 IM (2:21.84) after setting a new personal best time of 2:20.74 during prelims.
Chaffin also holds a lifetime best time of 2:18.76 in the 200 back, which she set earlier this season at the SAND Pumpkin Invite in October.

To earn a second swim at this season’s conference championship, it took times of 24.55/53.14/1:57.12 in the 50/100/200 free, 27.99/59.37/2:08.93 in the 50/100/200 back and 2:11.94 in the 200 IM, putting Chaffin outside the cutoff in each of her top events.
On the team itself, Chaffin’s top times would have ranked her 5th in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM, 6th in the 50 back, 7th in the 100 free and 8th in the 200 free this season. With six seniors on the roster, Wesleyan is poised to lose its top competitor in the 200 IM, Sara Bohacek, and two of its top contributors in the 100 and 200 free this spring, so Chaffin will help fill some of those gaps left behind.
Joining Chaffin in the pool in the fall will be Reese Denman (free/fly/IM), Hana Baldini (free/IM) and Jillian Schneider (free/back/fly), who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
