Angharad Evans has been named to the Scottish team for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, becoming the second swimmer selected following Duncan Scott, who was announced as the first addition in late November.

Evans’ selection stems from the Phase 1 requirements in Scottish Swimming’s selection policy, which requires a nomination from the Scottish Swimming Glasgow 2026 Selection Group followed by ratification by Commonwealth Games Scotland.

“To be the first female on the team is a really special moment for me. It gives me a lot more confidence in my abilities, and makes me want to make Scotland proud at the Commonwealth Games,” 22-year-old Evans told Scottish Swimming.

Elinor Middlemiss MBE, Team Scotland Chef de Mission, praised Evans’ recent performances on the international stage and expressed excitement about the depth of talent being assembled for the home Games.

“We’re delighted to welcome Angharad to Team Scotland for Glasgow 2026. She has enjoyed an outstanding breakthrough period on the international stage and has since gone on to underline her status as one of the world’s leading breaststrokers,” he said.

“Having athletes like Angharad and Duncan confirmed at this early stage, alongside those announced across other sports, shows the strength and depth that’s starting to build across Team Scotland and I’m looking forward to watching them perform in front of a home crowd this summer.”

Evans competed for the University of Georgia from 2020-2022, and after the 2022 NCAAs, didn’t race any competitions for a full year. In 2023, she contested the British Championships, where she finished 3rd in the 50 (31.72) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.05), missing the Worlds team.

At the 2024 British Trials, Evans won the 100 breast in 1:06.54 to earn her way to her first major international meet, junior or senior. The 21-year-old Evans went on to the AP Race London where she won the 100 breast in a new National Record time of 1:05.54. Come the Olympics, she was just off her PB, swimming 1:05.85 in the event to finish 6th.

This past season, Evans had the meet of her life at the British Championships, clocking 1:05.37 to reset her own national record and take the top time in the world going into the World Championships. In the 200 breast, she dropped eight-tenths off her best time in 2:21.86, putting her within a second of the British Record.

Come Singapore, Evans struggled in the 100 breast, finishing 18th in 1:07.04, missing the semifinal entirely. She bounced back a few days later for the 200 breast, swimming 2:24.21 in the final to finish 5th.

She finished the year ranked third in the world in the 200 breast and fourth in the 100 breast.

Evans’ major meets in 2026 will likely be the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. As of now, she’s the clear early favorite in both the 100 and 200 breast for Commonwealths if she can replicate her times from the British Trials.
