The field is officially set.
Perhaps the Colorado High School Activities Association’s most star-studded annual event — the Class 2A-5A boys wrestling state championships, and the 4A/5A girls championships — is slated for Thursday-Saturday at Denver’s Ball Arena.
And, predictably, there will be no shortage of athletes from the Weld County area in the wake of regional tournaments this past weekend.
Athletes that wrestled in regionals throughout the state qualified for state with top 4 finishes in their respective brackets.
Here’s a look at local boys and girls that earned state tournament berths:
Class 2A boys
Highland’s Cason Jensen punched his ticket to state with a third-place finish in Region 2’s 106-pound bracket. He is one of eight Huskies wrestlers to qualify for state, alongside 113-pounder Gino Bautista (first in regional), 120-pounder Robert Olson (third), 126-pounder Korbin Hoke (first), 132-pounder Carter Jensen (first), 144-pounder Tyler Varra (first), 165-pounder Audie Lewis (third) and 190-pounder Wyatt Chase (first).
Highland is expected to be one of the state’s top contenders in 2A this weekend. The Huskies comfortably won their regional.
Dayspring Christian 113-pounder Tanner Harman (fourth in Region 2) qualified for state, along with fellow Eagles wrestlers 132-pounder Liam Deboer (second), 144-pounder Liam Polk (third), 150-pounder Elijah Martin (first) and 175-pounder Joseph Noce (first).

Eaton is again poised to make a run in 3A with eight state qualifiers: 113-pounder Braxton Smith (first, Region 1), 120-pounder Blake Hawkins (second), 126-pounder Louden Kindsfater (first), 132-pounder Parker Wickam (first), 138-pounder Ethan Deal (first), 144-pounder Dylan Paris (second), 150-pounder Haydn Lebsack and 165-pounder Paxton Pettinger (first), .
The Reds placed second behind Fort Morgan in their regional in their home gym.
Longtime contender Valley has six qualifiers: 113-pounder Xavier Garcia (second, Region 3), 126-pounder Colton Dudley (third), 132-pounder Trenton Mestas (third), 138-pounder Diego Manriquez (second), 150-pounder Carlos Corral (second) and 175-pounder Rocky Hoffschneider (second).
Fort Lupton has an impressive 12 state qualifiers: 106-pounder Ezekiel Ortiz (second, Region 4), 113-pounder Josiah Orozco (first), 120-pounder Isaiah Rodriguez (first), 126-pounder Lorenzo Arellano (third), 138-pounder Josiah Gonzales (first), 150-pounder Frankie Ibarra (third), 157-pounder Eric Gonzalez (third), 165-pounder Dominick Martinez (first), 175-pounder Xander Ramirez (second), 190-pounder Donavon Buschman (second), 215-pounder Harold McClain (second) and 285-pounder Kaden Serna (third).
The Bluedevils dominated their way to a first-place finish in their regional.
Ayden Arellano (first, Region 2), a 120-pounder, qualified for University, as did 175-pounder Beau Gentry (fourth), 190-pounder Alex Serrano (third) and 215-pounder Deshaun Salazar (first).
Weld Central 106-pounder Emmanuel Solis (second, Region 4) qualified for state, as did teammates 126-pounder Cooper Howell (third), 144-pounder Ryan Hale (fourth), 150-pounder Gavin Kitzman (second), 157-pounder Cristiano Ontiveros (third), 165-pounder William Ellerman (second) and 190-pounder Wyatt Gerkin (fourth).
Platte Valley has five qualifiers: 144-pounder Logan Vannest (first, Region 1), 157-pounder Miguel Contreras (second), 175-pounder Baudillio Modesto (fourth), 190-pounder Jason Harrison (first) and 215-pounder Oscar Reinhart (fourth).
Resurrection Christian 175-pounder Josh Stockton (first, Region 1) qualified for state as did Cougars teammate Samuel Stockton (first), a talented 285-pounder, who is a defending state champion.

Girls wrestling continues to grow in the Weld County area, evident by the 22 state qualifiers in this year’s 4A state tournament.
