ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Overall, a pleasant end for the weekend as for the second day in a row the temperature rose above freezing. As a result of the milder weather, the ice and snowpack continue to slowly melt. This trend will likely continue for Monday as the high temperature will be near 40 degrees. If this happens as expected, this would be the warmest weather in more than four weeks for Rochester. Tuesday looks to be even warmer with clouds, limited sunshine and the temperature reaching the lower 40s.
Then things start to get interesting late Tuesday night into Wednesday. It appears there could be a significant contrast between very cold air located north of the Great Lakes and mild temperatures across the Ohio Valley. That means there is the potential for a battleground right over Western New York for the type of precipitation we could eventually see. Early indications show the best chance for all rain will be south of Routes 5 and 20. However, freezing rain or sleet my linger for a longer period of time for communities north of the New York State Thruway.
At this time, we have a great disparity in the weather computer models which means there is not a lot of confidence in the details concerning the type of precipitation.
