T20 World Cup: Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza debunks fake news after upsetting Australia ...Middle East

Sport by : (Inside sport) -

On February 13, another upset went down in the ICC T20 World Cup history as Zimbabwe stunned powerhouse side Australia by 23 runs in Group B clash at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Zimbabwe bowlers stood strong as they bundled out the Aussie at the score of 146/10. While the Chevrons will remember this win, their skipper Sikandar Raza was taken into the wrong books. A X user by the name Central Cricket claimed that Raza revealed that the side were teased by the Aussies and wanted to answer with their game instead of verbally responding.

But recently, Raza busted the fake news while revealing that he did not make any such comments. In a post on X, Raza wrote, “FAKE STATEMENT I am not sure why people would spread lies and fake news, not sure what they get out of this. Never said anything like this.”

The remarks from the Zimbabwean captain came after Central Cricket took to X and wrote, “BIG STATEMENT BY SIKANDER RAZA ON AUSTRALIA. Australia had teased us a lot before the match by calling us a small team, but instead of answering them verbally, we have answered them with our game.”

Carlos Brathwaite responds to fake quotes circulating on social media

This is not the first instance as former West Indies cricketer Carlos Brathwaite and former England captain Kevin Pietersen were also amid controversy. With the hype around the India vs Pakistan fixture touching the roof, an X user targeted Pakistan star bowler Usman Tariq by using fake quotes of Brathwaite. The West Indian took cognizance of the same and responded writing, “@RCB_Hlvv3 @elonmusk your platform need to start demonetizing people that post fake quotes and attribute them to public figures.”

I’ll be reporting this Where are the quotes ? When did u say this ? This is disingenuous, false and nasty of youDon’t delete the tweet either. t.co/JuMvSRLc8V

He further called the remarks as “baseless claim” while hitting at the X founder. Earlier, Kevin Pietersen had also gone through a similar instance when a X user posted a fake quote of him where he heaped praise of Rahmanullah Gurbaz in their T20 World Cup 2026 match against South Africa.
