ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Abby Wambach, the Rochester native and all-time leading goal scorer for the U.S. women’s soccer national team, has decided to leave her talent agency over concerns about its leader’s mention in the Epstein files.
According to the files, entertainment mogul Casey Wasserman exchanged emails in 2003 with Ghislaine Maxwell, the Jeffrey Epstein associate who’s currently behind bars for child sex trafficking and other offences.
In an Instagram statement, Wambach said she read Wasserman’s communications in the recently released files and decided that she won’t participate in any business arrangement under his leadership.
“I know what I know, and I am following my gut and my values,” Wambach wrote.
Wambach went on to say that she’s grateful to her agent, who she’s known for almost 20 years. She called for Wasserman to resign so “more people like me” don’t have to leave the agency.
“I’m unclear of my next steps. That’s ok with me, I just know where I can’t be,” she wrote.
Other people have also announced that they’re cutting ties with Wasserman Media Group, including Grammy-winning singer Chappell Roan. In a statement, Wasserman apologized for his communication with Maxwell, which he says “took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light.” Epstein was convicted in Florida in 2008 for soliciting prostitution from a minor.
