FREMONT — A pedestrian trying to move through traffic on the city’s primary thoroughfare died Monday after being hit by two cars, police said.
Authorities did not identify the pedestrian immediately. It was the fourth traffic fatality in the city since the start of 2026.

A driver of a Toyota Scion hit the pedestrian about 8:30 p.m., police said.
Another car also hit the pedestrian a few moments later.
Police and Fremont Fire personnel treated the pedestrian at the scene, and an ambulance rushed the person to a hospital. The pedestrian died there.
The Toyota’s driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. The driver wasn’t injured.
According to police, the pedestrian tried to cross the road amid heavy southbound traffic and the collision happened as he entered the lane second furthers from the left. The collision left the pedestrian in the far left lane and a second car hit the pedestrian there, police said.
The second vehicle did not stop and continued west on Stevenson Boulevard. Police did not identify the vehicle or driver but are continuing to search for it.
Police said they still are investigating what caused the crash but that alcohol and drug use by the drivers does not appear to be a factor.
