ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A woman from Dansville pleaded guilty to being involved in stealing $252,672.97 from an elderly neighbor on Wednesday.
Officials have announced that Nahtaha Castner of Dansville, 46, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
U.S. Attorney Nicholas M. Testani said the Castner and another person conspired to defraud a 90 year-old neighbor between July 2020 and February 2023. Gaining access to the neighbor’s banking information and withdrawing money through ATMs.
Upwards of $252,672.97 was stolen by Castner and the accomplice.
An additional $2,000 were stolen by using the victim’s personal information to apply for three credit cards. The credit cards were used to make fraudulent purchases against three financial firms.
The report also says that Castner would wire transfer money from the victim’s debit card.
These charges carry a minimum of two years and a maximum of 22 years in prison, along with a $250,000 fine.
Castner will be sentenced on June 9.
