Illinois high school state finalist Vanya Gojakovic has committed to staying in-state and continuing her swimming career at Northwestern University. Gojakovic, a versatile swimmer who shows particular strength in the individual medley and backstroke events, trains with NASA Wildcat Aquatics and is a junior at Evanston Township High School.

“I’m honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at Northwestern University! I’d like to thank my family for their constant love, support, and sacrifices. To my club and high school coaches, and my past and present teammates: thank you for pushing me every day and helping shape who I am in and out of the pool. Finally, a huge thank you to Coach Rachel, Coach Margaret, Coach Eddie, and the entire coaching staff for believing in me and welcoming me into the Wildcat family. I’m so excited for what’s ahead. GO ’CATS!! ”

Gojakovic was a two-time finalist at the 2025 IHSA Girls State Championship (SCY) in November, representing Evanston. She finished 8th in the 200 IM (2:04.59) and 14th in the 100 back (56.71). Her prelim time of 2:02.65 in the 200 IM remains her lifetime best.

Her team’s 200 free relay also placed high, finishing as the runner-up with Gojakovic splitting 26.42. Individually, she qualified for finals in three events, touching 19th in the 200 IM (2:23.72), 29th in the 200 breast (2:42.02), and 31st in the 50 free (27.33).
