NORTHERN ITALY — Wednesday’s competitions at the Milan and Cortina Winter Olympics have gotten underway. It’s set to be an action-packed day.

In the finals of women’s moguls, Team USA’s Liz Lemley and Olivia Giaccio will go up against defending gold medalist Jakara Anthony from Australia. The competition is also stacked for the qualifiers of the snowboard halfpipe in Livigno. On the men’s side, Australia’s Scotty James is set to compete in his fifth Olympics, having earned bronze and silver, but never gold. He will go up against Team USA’s Alessandro Barbieri, Chase Josey, Chase Blackwell, and Jake Pates.

On the women’s side, Team USA’s Chloe Kim is aiming to defend her Olympic title and win a third straight gold medal. That’s a feat no snowboarder, including Shaun White, has pulled off. Kim is competing in the qualifiers as she comes off a recent injury. She tore her left labrum, a type of shoulder joint cartilage, while training in Switzerland.

There will also be speed skating, luge, the figure skating free dance, the Nordic combined, and more on Wednesday. News10NBC is your home for the Olympics and has been tracking some of the biggest stories from the games. We’ve also been following the journeys of Rochester-native athletes at the games.

What’s next for Haley Winn and Team USA women’s hockey?

After winning all four of its games in the group stages, Team USA is moving on to the quarterfinals. The U.S. beat Canada 5-0 on Tuesday in a highly anticipated matchup between two of the strongest teams at the Olympics. One of those goals came off an assist from Rochester native Haley Winn.

Winn, a defender, is one of five Bishop Kearney graduates on the team. The other four graduates are Caroline Harvey (defender) of New Hampshire, Laila Edwards (forward) of Ohio, Kirsten Simms (forward) of Michigan, and Ava McNaughton (goalie) of Pennsylvania. You can read more about them here.

Team USA will take on Italy in the quarterfinals on Monday, Feb. 16, at the Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena. It’s expected to start around 10:40 a.m. Eastern Time. Check back for more details on how to watch it.

When will Rochester’s Dylan Walczyk be in the finals?

Dylan Walczyk, a former Bristol Mountain athlete and Beijing Olympian, has qualified for the finals round of men’s moguls. Walczyk placed seventh in the qualifying round of moguls at Livigno Aerials & Moguls Snow Park on Tuesday morning. He will compete in the finals on Thursday, Feb. 12. You can watch it live on Peacock at 6:15 a.m. Eastern Time.

The top 10 of 30 athletes automatically qualified for the finals after Tuesday’s competition. Skiers who didn’t make it will have a second chance to qualify on Thursday. Team USA’s Nick Page also qualified for the finals, placing fifth. Japan’s Ikuma Horishima, a Beijing Bronze medalist, placed first in the qualifiers, being the only skier to break 80 points.

When will Rochester’s Chris Lillis compete?

Chris Lillis, a Pittsford native who took home gold in the 2022 Beijing Olympics, doesn’t compete until the second full week. He will compete in the aerials qualifying round on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The aerials finals will take place on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Lillis won gold in the aerial freestyle skiing team event and placed sixth in individual men’s aerials. Unlike Beijing, this year, he will get to compete in front of fans and interact with other athletes without worrying about the COVID-19 pandemic. News10NBC spoke with Lillis about how he got into aerial skiing and how he’s preparing to compete. We also spoke with Lillis’ parents about how their children got into aerial skiing.

Other local connections to the Olympics

There are other Rochester connections to the Winter Olympics. Emily Renna, a Fairport native, has been chosen as an alternate athlete for women’s bobsled for Team USA. She finished fourth at the 2025 World Championships for the two-woman bobsleigh.

In addition, Erin Zach, a 2014 graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, will serve as a linesperson for women’s hockey during the Olympics. She played hockey for RIT.
