RIYADH — The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has prevented the entry of 1,671 tons of contaminated and non-compliant food products into the Kingdom during the last quarter of 2025. The authority identified 1,460 non-compliant establishments during 11,547 inspection tours covering 8,897 facilities. he SFDA urged importers to comply with approved specifications and regulations before importing food products, stressing its continuous monitoring efforts to prevent non-compliant items from reaching local markets. It warned that violations may result in penalties, including suspension of operations, imprisonment, or fines of up to SR10 million. According to the authority, the rejected shipments were found, through laboratory testing, to be contaminated with harmful bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, and E. coli, which can cause food poisoning and pose serious risks to consumer health. The SFDA confirmed that legal measures have been taken against the violating importers and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward threats to public health. It also called on the public to report violations through the unified number (19999).
