The Chicago Cubs today announced their non-roster invites to big league Spring Training, which begins in earnest later this week. The full list is below, with the reminder that these are the NON-40-MAN players who are coming to big league camp. So if you’re wondering where someone obvious is, pretty good bet they’re on the 40-man, so, yes, they’ll be there by default.
You know most of the minor league deal veterans already, but there are several prospects who got the invite, with a special eyes-emoji shout to Jefferson Rojas. Obviously Jaxon Wiggins will get a lot of attention, too, but everyone kinda knew he’d get the invite.
Also particularly notable given the sizable volume of 40-man pitchers and veterans in camp: Double-A pitchers Grant Kipp and Connor Schultz. Both were undrafted signings (Kipp in 2022 after the draft, Schultz in 2024 after working in independent ball), both are 26, and both showed some impressive things on the doorstep of Triple-A last year. Makes sense that you might want to see them in big league camp, evaluating them as extra depth options and also seeing where they stand as far as longer-term development goes. They aren’t alone in that category as far as guys who have yet to reach Triple-A, but it’s a nice nod to them in particular.
The full list of non-roster invites follows. These aren’t necessarily all guys who have a chance to make the big league team on Opening Day, especially the prospects, but getting to be in big league camp, around veterans and the coaching staff, can be huge for their development.
