New Look in Brooklyn, Dillingham is FREE! Ayo and Vooch Say Goodbye, and Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

On Sunday, I watched Ayo Dosunmu make his Timberwolves debut and Nikola Vučević suit up in a Celtics jersey — and it made me feel a funny kind of way. Two former Bulls already moved on, with a lot more set to make their debuts soon. Then I look back at the team we have right now, watching them lose, but still show promise, and I realize this was all necessary.

Tonight, they play one of their final games before the NBA All-Star Break, taking on the Brooklyn Nets.

So yeah, let’s talk Bulls basketball.

© David Banks-Imagn Images With the Bulls in Brooklyn tonight to face the Nets, we can safely throw out any previous performances as a foundation for building a pregame. The Bulls will be rolling out a completely new squad. And the Nets have joined them jumping head-first into the tank. It will be interesting to see how the Bulls’ defense looks against one of the worst offenses in the NBA. The Bulls held their own against Denver, so I’m hoping to see more of that tonight. It wasn’t enough to win, but there were glimpses to take some hope from heading into the next contest.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 9, 2026 Hopefully, we also get to see some new lineups. Please, Billy Donovan, move Matas to SF. Start Nick Richards and/or Guerschon Yabusele or Jalen Smith. Give Rob Dillingham more minutes, and let him play alongside Matas and Ivey so we can actually see what that core looks like. Try small-ball too, we have more than enough guards to make that work. Just try stuff. Don’t get stuck in the habit of chasing wins. Losses are fine if we’re learning something about the players and the team. It even helps with the Bulls’ draft strategy, being able to use a top-ten pick on someone this team actually needs. But to know what we need, we first have to find out. Please start that tonight. Dillingham, the new young guard brought into Chicago, was a controversial part of the Ayo trade. Not because he did anything wrong, it’s just that he hadn’t really shown anything since coming into the NBA. The flashes were there in college, but once he got to the league, a lack of opportunity and constant pressure is where Dillingham started to crumble. In his postgame press conference, he told the media that when he was in Minnesota, every game felt like everything was on the line. Here, he said, the stakes just aren’t the same.

Dillingham put it plainly: “Obviously we’re gonna win, we wanna win, but like, we can mess up here. It’s not like if we lose, we die.”

Damn. How bad were things in Minnesota—and who’s died since getting there?

— Will Gottlieb (@Will_Gottlieb) February 8, 2026 Speaking of what we left behind, Ayo Dosunmu and Nikola Vučević didn’t leave without saying goodbye. Both shared messages for Chicago and for us Bulls fans. And even though their run here will likely fade in the history books, their words were a reminder that, at the very least, they tried.

Chicago,Thank you for welcoming me and my family 5 years ago. It was an honor to represent the Bulls, a historic franchise, and to play in front of some of the best fans in the world at the United Center! While I hoped we could have achieved more together on the court, I will…

— Nikola Vucevic (@NikolaVucevic) February 6, 2026 In both of their first games, they put up respectable stat lines. And soon, as they are acclimated in the lineup it will only get better. The one thing I do hope for them, is that they make it far into the NBA playoffs, like other Bulls before them did.
