ARTESIA — Firefighters waged a defensive battle against flames that struck a commercial building in Artesia on Sunday.
Firefighters arrived about 5:50 p.m. Sunday to the single-story building in the 19000 block of Pioneer Boulevard, at South Street, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Flames and smoke were showing when they arrived and a second alarm was requested at 6 p.m., fire officials said.
The firefighters decided it was too dangerous to fight the blaze from the roof or from inside, so they took up defensive positions around the building, officials said.
The flames were out at 9:20 p.m., officials said. Two injuries were reported, although a fire department statement did not make clear whether they were firefighters.
