ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Super Bowl Sunday was a busy night for local pizza shops, including Chester Cab Pizza on Park Avenue.
Owner Dess Ivanov and his team kicked off preparations early Sunday morning, rolling dough and handling pre-orders.
“Super Bowl Sunday is super busy for about three hours,” said Ivanov. “The game started 6:30, but at 4 we’re full speed.”
Gabriel Maneiro, a customer, was on pizza duty for his friends.
“I don’t really like either team but I dislike the Patriots a lot. So I definitely got Seahawks,” he said.
By kickoff, Chester Cab Pizza had received around 85 orders. Ivanov anticipated over 100 orders by night’s end, a significant number for the small shop.
“Everyone’s working today,” Ivanov said. “I sent everybody home except for a couple people now cause they’ve been working since this morning.”
Many customers were familiar faces. Alexandria Menteer came to grab a pizza and watch the game.
“I mean, I expected it to be super busy, but I’ve been here before and they’ve always taken good care of me here,” she said.
Business slowed as the game began but picked up again at halftime. A TV above the counter kept customers updated on the score.
“I want them to feel like they haven’t missed anything,” Ivanov said.
After the game, Ivanov and his team focused on cleanup and restocking pizza boxes for the next day.
