Who is singing the national anthem? Full list of Super Bowl performers ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

A star-studded lineup of performers will take part in this year’s Super Bowl from an opening ceremony to the national anthem to halftime and more, but this year’s anthem singer has already addressed criticism.

Charlie Puth is set to perform the national anthem and despite backlash on social media from some who questioned his selection, the 33-year-old has promised it will be “only of my best vocal performances.”

“I’ll never claim to be as good of a singer as Whitney Houston ever was,” he wrote on X. “But I assure you we’re putting a really special arrangement together—in D major.”

Puth is a four-time Grammy-nominated singer known for his songs “Attention,” “We Don’t Talk Anymore” and his 2015 breakout hit “See You Again,” with Wiz Khalifa, from the “Furious 7” movie soundtrack. His appearance will come ahead of his fourth studio album “Whatever’s Clever!” due on March 6.

He said he’s approaching the Super Bowl moment as a producer as much as a vocalist. Though he has performed in stadiums before, he said each venue presents its own challenges.

“There’s not one stadium that sounds alike,” Puth said.

Known for his hands-on role in his music, Puth said maintaining control over sound is central to his preparation, particularly in a setting where acoustics, delay and broadcast demands intersect. The national anthem, one of the most scrutinized songs in American music, requires restraint as much as power, especially in a stadium setting, the singer said.

“You just make sure you don’t over sing,” said Puth. “The moment you start thinking about everybody else, you’re not locked into the music. And that’s when things don’t sound the way they should.”

This year’s Super Bowl will air live on NBC with the pregame show starting at 12 p.m. and the opening ceremony beginning at 5 p.m. The coverage will also exclusively stream on Peacock.

Here’s a look at who else is performing:

Who will perform the opening ceremony?

Green Day will kick off the big game with an opening ceremony, the league announced Sunday. The performance will celebrate six decades of the championship’s history, with the band helping usher generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field.

The trio, who formed in the East Bay subregion of the San Francisco Bay Area and are made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool, are expected to perform a selection of their best-known anthems as part of the tribute.

“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” lead singer Armstrong said. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”

The ceremony airs live at 5 p.m. CT on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo.

“Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL legends who’ve helped define this sport, is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX,” said Tim Tubito, the league’s senior director of event and game presentation. “As we work alongside NBC Sports for this opening ceremony, we look forward to creating a collective celebration for fans in the stadium and around the world.”

The opening ceremony will take place ahead of the pregame entertainment.

Who is singing ‘America the Beautiful; and ‘Life Every Voice and Sing’?

Brandi Carlile will sing “America the Beautiful” and Coco Jones will deliver “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

Carlile has won 11 Grammys and won praise for her eighth studio album “Returning to Myself,” which was released in October. She’s nominated for two Grammys with Elton John for their album “Who Believes in Angels?” released in April and their song “Never Too Late” from his documentary film “Elton John: Never Too Late.”

Jones is an R&B star who won a Grammy in the best R&B performance category for her song “ICU” in 2024 and released her debut album “Why Not More?” which is nominated for best R&B album at next year’s ceremony. She also stars as Hilary Banks on Peacock’s television series “Bel-Air,” entering its last season.

“Charlie, Brandi, and Coco are generational talents, and we are honored to have them — alongside our extraordinary deaf performers — on Super Bowl LX’s world stage,” said Desiree Perez, CEO of Roc Nation, which is producing the show with DPS and Jesse Collins. “This moment embodies the very best of culture, live performance and our country.”

The pregame performances will air on NBC, Telemundo and Peacock.

Who is performing at halftime?

Bad Bunny will be the Super Bowl halftime headline performer, putting the Grammy-winning Puerto Rican artist on the league’s biggest stage.

He performs in Spanish and is expected to do so at the Super Bowl.

The decision sparked some criticism, including from U.S. President Donald Trump and some of his supporters.

The 31-year-old, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio has been vocal in his opposition to Trump and his policies. He decided to do a 31-day residency in Puerto Rico, avoiding stops in the mainland U.S., citing concerns about the mass deportation of Latinos.

But despite the opposition, Commissioner Roger Goodell stood by the decision.

“It’s carefully thought through,” Goodell said. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.”

In an interesting move, there appears to be a height requirement to be part of the Puerto Rican star’s on‑field performance. Screenshots of the Field Team application shared on social media show that participants must be between 5 feet, 7 inches and 6 feet tall.

Bad Bunny, who made a surprise appearance during the Super Bowl LIV halftime show in 2020 alongside headliners Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, is 5 feet, 11 inches tall.

Who is signing the performances?

The national anthem and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” will be performed by deaf performing artist Fred Beam in American Sign Language. Julian Ortiz will sign “America the Beautiful.”

In a historic first, the halftime show will include a multilingual signing program featuring Puerto Rican Sign Language, led by interpreter Celimar Rivera Cosme. All signed performances for the pregame and halftime shows will be presented in collaboration with Alexis Kashar of LOVE SIGN and Howard Rosenblum of Deaf Equality.
