The first medals of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics have been won and while there’s still more medal events to go Saturday, some countries are off to a bigger start than others.

Here’s a look at what’s been won so far and where things stand:

Swiss racer Franjo von Allmen captured the Olympic downhill to win the first gold medal at the Milan Cortina Games.

Ryan Cochran-Siegle entered the race as the most likely American to contend for a medal but fell short, finishing over two seconds slower than first-place. None of the four Americans competing in the event achieved a podium finish.

Italy’s Giovanni Franzoni finished with the silver medal and Franzoni’s teammate, 36-year-old Dominik Paris, had a fast run to take bronze.

The second medal, and first women’s gold, went to Sweden’s Frida Karlsson, who drove an astonishing pace to win the women’s cross-country skiathlon. Right behind Karlsson came fellow Swede Ebba Andersson, who finished 51 seconds later to win silver. In third place is Heidi Weng of Norway.

Weng’s bronze medal win made Norway the winningest country in Olympic history for women’s cross-country skiing.

Meanwhile, Jessie Diggins, the most decorated cross-country skier in U.S. history, finished the event in eighth. 

As of Saturday morning (CT), the U.S. had not yet won a medal in the Games, but more will be up for grabs in men’s snowboarding Big Air, but only one American, Oliver Martin, made it to the final after finishing ninth in the qualifiers.
