The woman who survived a horrifying attack on a CTA train was released from the hospital earlier this week.
Bethany MaGee, 26, who was set on fire while riding a train in the Loop on Nov. 17, was released from the hospital on Thursday, she confirmed in a statement issued through Cook County Health.
“Yesterday marked an important step in my recovery, as I was discharged from Cook County Health Stroger Hospital,” she said, in part. “My family and I are grateful to be able to celebrate this milestone, and we want to sincerely thank everyone who has offered support, kindness, and encouragement during this time.”
Police previously said MaGee was severely burned by Lawrence Reed, 50, in an unprovoked attack. NBC 5 Investigates reported on Reed’s extensive criminal history, which includes arson. He was also on electronic monitoring at the time of the attack.
The case forced changes to Cook County’s electronic monitoring system, which are set to go into effect this weekend.
