2026 Winter Olympic Games

February 4 – February 22, 2026 Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy Event Website Schedule

While the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy don’t officially start until February 6, events are already underway at the various competition sites. While swimming won’t be part of these Olympics, there is a notable swimmer competing here as former USC breaststroke star Carsten Vissering is set to represent the United States in bobsled.

A standout swimmer in high school, Vissering set a National Independent High School Record in the boys’ 100 breast while swimming for Georgetown Prep in his native Bethesda, Md., coming in with a time of 53.49 to break a 16-year-old record held by Patrick Fowler back in 2014.

He then committted to and attended USC for a standout collegiate career, highlighted by two individual Pac-12 titles in the 100 breast from 2017 and 2019. Vissering also notably an NCAA Champion in the pool as he was a member of USC’s 200 medley relay team that won the NCAA title in 2018.

Now, competing in bobsled, Vissering will have a new field of competitors to conquer at these Olympics, with an active schedule ahead of him. While the USA hasn’t confirmed their teams for the two-man bobsled events, Vissering is definitively competing in the 4-man event.

At the Olympics, bobsled follows a slightly different format than swimming. While there are multiple heats of each event, all of the teams compete in each of the four heats for an event. Instead of progressing through the heats with eliminations, the times from the heats are instead added up to generate an aggregiate time for each team, with the fastest time overall taking home the gold medal. These heats are held over a two-day span per event, with two heats occuring per day before the medalists can be named.

If he is named to the 2-man team, Vissering will start his competition schedule on February 16 with the first two heats of the event. For that event, the remaining two runs will then be held the next day on February 17 with medals awarded following the last of the runs.

The four-man competition will kick-off on February 21, following a similar competition schedule with the first two heats scheduled for day 1. The following day, as with the 2-man event, the remaining two heats will be contested with medals awarded after the final event. Notably, the four-man bobsled heat 4, the final heat of the event, is actually the second-to-last event of the entire Olympics, only followed by the men’s ice hockey gold medal match later that same evening.

All of the races will be available to stream live in the USA on Peacock. NBC will also be broadcasting a delayed stream of the final runs for each event. The men’s 2-man event final heat will be streamed on Olympic Late Night at 11:35 PM EST on February 17, while the 4-man final will show on NBC at 11:00 AM EST on February 22.
