Guerschon Yabusele Tweaked His Contract Before Bulls Trade (Report) ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Freshly-acquired Chicago Bulls power forward Guerschon Yabusele adjusted his contract before being sent over from the New York Knicks.

Per K.C. Johnson of Chicago Sports Network, the 6-foot-7 Frenchman amended his deal to eliminate a $5.8 million player option he has for the 2026-27 season. He’ll thus hit unrestricted free agency for a second consecutive summer, after thoroughly flaming out in New York.

Could the 30-year-old revive his value by putting up decent counting stats in a decimated Bulls frontcourt rotation? Possibly.

Sources tell Joel Lorenzi of The Athletic that Yabusele has received some overtures to return overseas, but he will remain in Chicago to finish out this year at least.

The Bulls, who are rarely active at the trade deadline, made up for that by effectively tearing down their middling, perpetually play-in tournament-bound roster with a whopping seven (!) trades this week. Chicago has now acquired a whopping nine new second-round picks, plus one second-round pick swap, in addition to several roster updates.

Where Does Yabusele Slot in to the Bulls’ Rotation?

Johnson laid out Chicago’s new roster after the dust had settled on all the team’s various deals and Thursday’s trade deadline had passed.

So let’s project the club’s impending depth chart. This writer has made some predictive tweaks, too.

Point Guard: Josh Giddey, Tre Jones, Rob Dillingham

Shooting Guard: Jaden Ivey, Anfernee Simons, Collin Sexton

Small Forward: Matas Buzelis, Isaac Okoro, Patrick Williams

Power Forward: Jalen Smith, Guerschon Yabusele, Leonard Miller

Center: Nick Richards, Zach Collins

Johnson believes Yabusele, who’s fairly short, will slot in as head coach Billy Donovan’s primary backup center behind new deadline-day acquisition Nick Richards.

With Collins now out indefinitely due to a toe sprain, it’s certainly possible. Johnson left Collins off the depth chart entirely, noting he was sidelined long-term. Does that mean he’s possibly done for the year?

I wonder if the bigger, more athletic Smith will essentially moonlight as Donovan’s backup five in certain line-ups.

What Now for Dalen Terry?

Dalen Terry, who was rerouted to New York in the Yabusele deal, was subsequently shipped off to the New Orleans Pelicans for scrappy defense-first point guard Jose Alvarado before the deadline Thursday. Now, Terry will have an opportunity to fight for minutes on one of the worst teams in the NBA. He’s athletic and has shown flashes as a defender and passer in limited minutes, but is so raw on offense that he will need extended run to truly develop.Still, at just 23 years old, the Arizona product may have untapped upside. New Orleans will just need to be patient.
