HAMMONDSPORT, N.Y. — A massive fire broke out overnight at the Hammondsport Department of Public Works in Steuben County, destroying the building and all equipment inside.

Firefighters responded to the blaze on Back Valley Road around 2 a.m. They managed to get the fire under control in 45 minutes. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The Department of Public Works is currently waiting to hear back from the insurance company about the next steps. In the meantime, other municipalities are renting equipment to Hammondsport.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
