SAN JOSE – A man died after he crashed a stolen car into a cement wall Sunday in San Jose, police said.

Hernandez said the driver sped away eastbound on Moorpark Avenue, but officers did not chase after him.
Shortly after passing the intersection with Monroe Street, the driver lost control and crashed into a cement wall beneath the Highway 17 overpass, Hernandez said.
Hernandez said “officers saw the collision from a distance” and provided aid to the driver, but he died at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The death marked the city’s third traffic fatality of the year. The city had recorded the same number of deaths at the same point last year.
