Juvenile arrested in Fort Bragg drive-by shooting ...Middle East

News by : (Ukiah Daily Journal) -

A Fort Bragg Police Department investigation into a New Year’s Eve drive-by shooting has led to the arrest of a juvenile suspect and an adult accused of helping after the fact, authorities said.

Police responded at about 2:17 a.m. Dec. 31 to the 200 block of West Spruce Street after receiving reports of a drive-by shooting. Officers arriving at the scene learned that an unknown suspect had fired multiple rounds into a residence before fleeing the area in a gray sport utility vehicle, according to a police media release. No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

Officers immediately began an investigation, interviewing victims and witnesses, canvassing the neighborhood, collecting physical evidence, and reviewing video surveillance from the area. As the investigation progressed, police served multiple warrants and worked with the Mendocino County Major Crimes Task Force to conduct surveillance at locations throughout the Fort Bragg area in an effort to locate the suspect or suspects involved.

Through that investigation, officers identified the suspected shooter as a 16-year-old Fort Bragg resident. Police then began what they described as a lengthy effort to locate and arrest the juvenile.

On Jan. 28, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers received information that the juvenile was at a location in the 23000 block of Highway 1. Officers from the Fort Bragg Police Department, assisted by members of the Mendocino County Major Crimes Task Force, responded to the area and established surveillance.

At about 5:10 p.m., officers observed the juvenile attempting to flee the location on foot. Officers took the suspect into custody without incident.

During a search incident to the arrest, officers located a loaded 9mm “ghost gun” on the juvenile, along with a second loaded magazine, police said. Officers also recovered an additional box of ammunition and suspected controlled substances.

A “ghost gun” typically refers to a privately made firearm that lacks a serial number and is often assembled from parts kits, making it difficult to trace.

The juvenile was transported to Mendocino County Juvenile Hall and booked on multiple charges, including carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a ghost gun, minor in possession of a handgun, a felony juvenile warrant, and possession of a controlled substance.

In a related arrest, officers also took 40-year-old Marvin Aldanacisnero into custody on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact, police said. Aldanacisnero was transported to the Mendocino County Jail.

Police did not release details about Aldanacisnero’s alleged involvement beyond the charge.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact Officer Beak of the Fort Bragg Police Department at 707-961-2800, extension 224.
