Swedish freestyler Ted Nilsson has committed to Florida State University for the fall of 2026.
Nilsson hails from Löddeköpinge, Sweden, and specializes in middle-distance freestyle. He has represented his country at multiple editions of the Nordic Championships (SCM), where, at the most recent edition in November, Nilsson logged his fastest-ever 100 freestyle time of 49.51. In 2023, Nilsson placed 6th overall in the 200 free at the Nordic Championships in 1:51.95.
In 2024, Nilsson represented his nation at the European Aquatics Junior Championships (LCM), where he finished 16th in the 200 free in 1:51.75 after qualifying 11th out of prelims in 1:50.91. He also finished 29th in the 800 free (8:31.19) and 53rd in the 100 free in 52.45.
Nilsson nabbed a pair of key best times at the Malmsten Swim Open in Stockholm (LCM) in April. He notched his fastest-ever 400 free time at 3:58.95. At that same meet, he also clocked an 8:26.61 in the 800 free.
He holds a best long course 200 free time of 1:50.80 from the SM/Para-SM/U21-SM in June of 2025. His fastest-ever 100 free in long course came at the Junior Championships in July 2024, with a time of 51.64.

Based on Nilsson’s converted times, he would have finished 42nd in both the 200 and 500 free and 64th in the 100 free.
There is still a sizable gap between Nilsson and ACC scoring, but with a wide range of freestyle events at his disposal and yards swimming still yet to be explored by Nilsson, he still oozes key international potential.
His 500 free would immediately rank within the top five on this season’s Florida State team, while the 200 free room boasts notable depth, as the Seminole men have seen nine swimmers under 1:37 this season, and five under 1:36.
The addition of Nilsson bodes well for Florida State as they will return Michel Arkhangelskiy (1:32.71 200 freestyler this season), Logan Robinson (1:31.77 200 free, this season) and Fred Lindholm (4:20.99 500 free this season), who will all be just entering their junior season in the fall, making for potentially massive 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.
Nilsson joins Ryan Coughenour, Clay Magyar, and Anthony Pineiro in the Seminole’s 2026 recruiting class.
