Despite strong interest from other teams around the league for coordinator and head coaching gigs, the Denver Broncos and Sean Payton have retained the services of Davis Webb by giving him a promotion.

Davis Webb is staying in the Mile High City after he was promoted to being the team’s offensive coordinator on Monday, as first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelisserro.
After having interest from several NFL teams this offseason for head coaching and offensive coordinator vacancies, Webb is staying with Payton and Bo Nix, who will be entering his third season.
He’s been an instrumental piece behind the scenes for Nix since Denver drafted him, and the Broncos’ franchise quarterback will have coaching continuity once again.
With Webb being promoted to offensive coordinator, it’s unclear whether or not he’ll be calling plays, although Payton let him call plays in their preseason game this past season against the Arizona Cardinals, where Denver’s offense generated over 400+ yards of offense.
Last week, it was reported that Payton reached out to Joe Brady, who ended up taking the Buffalo Bills head coaching job, and that there was a possibility of Brady calling plays. With Webb staying in Denver and turning down opportunities to call plays elsewhere, it either means he will have playcalling responsibility or his connection with Nix and Payton was too strong to go elsewhere.
Because of Webb’s promotion, the Broncos are also promoting Logan Kilgore to quarterbacks coach after he’s spent the last three seasons as a quality control assistant on offense. Kilgore will now work the day-to-day position-wise with Nix and other quarterbacks, while Webb and Payton each spend their own time with Nix as the offense looks to make further leaps in 2026.
A run game to complement Nix would be the best-case scenario this upcoming season. We’ll see if Webb actually gets to call plays and if he does, what touches he can add to the offense and personnel.
