According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Oklahoma assistant head coach for defense/co-defensive coordinator Jay Valai is being considered for the Buffalo Bills’ defensive backs’ job. The Bills, who recently moved on from the defensive-oriented Sean McDermott in favor of offensive coordinator Joe Brady, allowed the fewest passing yards in the NFL last season.

If Valai goes to Buffalo, he will be tutoring some talented young corners and safeties. 2024 second-round pick Cole Bishop (24), 2025 first-round pick Maxwell Hairston (23, from Kentucky) have the ability to create a strong secondary, alongside veterans Christian Benford and Taylor Rapp. Maintaining the league’s best pass defense by passing yards allowed won’t be easy for Valai, but he’s obviously up to the challenge if he’s taking the job.
