To the Editor:
I condemn the Trump administration’s ICE operation. Everyday there are obviously unlawful detentions and deportations of citizens and immigrants in our nation.
In response to the killing of Renee Good, Vice President Vance and Stephen Miller senior adviser to President Trump both declared ICE officers to have “Total Immunity ” carrying out their job duties. President Trump failed to respond to Vance and Miller’s statement.
The ICE shooter walked away from the car he shot into with his firearm to a unmarked SUV and drove away. Immediately after the shooting one of ICE officers was recorded saying a vulgar expletive about Renee Good. Multiple videos of the shooting showed Renee Good simply driving away from the shooting scene. Everyone. could see with their own eyes what happened.
Video and audio recording document that a person identifying himself as a doctor was denied access to care for Renee Good.
Normally, the President , Vice President would not comment on a killing. The Justice Department would also only comment that there would be an investigation which would include local, State and Federal officials. This is not a normal President . Within hours President Trump and Attorney General Bondi declared Renee Good, a domestic terrorist. They announced the investigation would not include local or State investigators.
The killing of Alex Pretti by ICE officers was also documented with videos showing him helping a woman who had been shoved to the ground by ICE officers with his last words recorded as “Are you OK” before being shot to death by ICE officers. Again he was immediately accused of being a domestic terrorist and only the Trump administration was allowed to investigate the killing.
This behavior by President Trump and his administration is not normal and is a real and imminent threat to the rule of law , democracy and common decency..
I call on all of our local elected officials in Mendocino County to express their opinion on the ICE operation in our nation. They should do so either collectively or individually tell us what they think. This is a local issue. People are being unlawfully killed, detained and deported by ICE in our nation, Our neighbors, friends and relatives and countless fellow humans are being abused and killed by a lawless President. You were elected to represent us and speaking out is part of your job.
These are not normal times and these ICE abuses will not simply disappear. I see in this morning’s news that Trump has fired an ICE commander and is going to review ICE operations and think about including local and State officials in the killings. Trump also signed legislation passed in Congress Nov. 19, 2025 that required the full release of the Epstein files within 30 days. That hasn’t happened. The public must speak out. Do not be silent.
